Abstract
Nationally, membership and participation levels in non-profit clubs and organizations have decreased over the past decade. This study explores the various reasons behind such a decline specifically looking at the Austin Healey Club of America – Northeast Region. Members of the club were surveyed as to the reasons they originally joined the club and why they have remained members over the years. The study also examined participation levels over the past four years further, the study attempted to understand the reasons why people participate in certain events and not others. Members were asked for their feedback on events and what changes they would like the club to make regarding events in the future. Results of the survey indicate that family obligations play a major role in a member’s decision of whether or not to attend an event. Distance members must travel to attend an event is also a key factor in members decision whether or not to participate. Newer members indicate they would like to have more events that focus on the technical aspects of the cars. In the past this has not been a focus for the club.
