Abstract

The present research sought to provide evidence of a relationship between self-esteem and anger. Twenty-seven of the 93 subjects from a previous research study were mailed a selfesteem survey, the Multi-dimensional Self-esteem Inventory (MSEI; Epstein & O'Brien, 1988). Results were examined on two levels. First, high and low anger subjects were compared to determine if any differences existed between their levels of self-esteem. Second, components of self-esteem were compared with selected variables from the previous anger study for all subjects. The primary findings of this study do not support a relationship between self-esteem and anger. Results did provide evidence of a link between mental health problems and components of selfesteem. Implications of this study suggest anger management programs do not need to address self-esteem as it is an unrelated concept.
