Abstract

With the influx of mental health concerns in the prison system several issues have risen. One aspect that was examined in this research was the relationship between Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms and aggressive behavior of prison inmates. Data was obtained from an ongoing research project through University of Connecticut Health Center to assess mental health care needs. The primary findings of this study suggest that gender is related to PTSD diagnosis, women tend to be diagnosed more often than men. In addition, female inmates are victimized more often than male inmates, physical assaults being the highest. Implications of the findings, as well as suggestions for future research are discussed.
